Disclaimer first. I won a comedy contest at Waltz- Astoria. Ok, you heard it from me. This is a Mom and Pop operation. 50 people it's crowded. It caters mostly to singer songwriters. Everyone gets 10 minutes stagetime. Costs $10 for food and or drink. The warmth and respect the audience feels for the entertainers is palpable. Easy to park there. Not far from the N train. A great place. My name is Phil O'Reilly
Really good spot. It's a nice break from the mic scene and performing for some non-comics makes it easier to gauge the strength of your tags and set-ups. And actual laughs on punches don't hurt either ...
I had a great time at this mic. Of course i was "on" that night i performed so of course i cant complain but since you want something negative, the place is far & in the middle of Queens nowhereville. Host is mad cool & staff is really nice & laughed at my jokes. oops, there i go again being partial! :/ anyways, its cool cause u get to see musicians which gives you material to riff off of. (lots of Fs there without using the word fuck... cool!)
Well-run mic! Magicians, musicians, poet and comics! Craaazeee. There was a full-on Sikh comic and that was fun. So Queens! The host reallly respects performers and takes the mic seriously and that was refreshing. You have to buy at least $10 worth of food or drink to get on stage. When I went there was a loong list, so get there early to sign up. I arrived at like 7:50 and went up at 10:40 (or maybe it was 11:40??) Bottomline: it was late. I plan on going back to this mic.
