Yesterday I did my first Open Mic ever... I am glad I did it here...it was great, the crowd mostly solid experienced comediants, were very supportive, The host Hector puts a lot of passion and love in his comedy Open mics... I even went home with a prize! I will be back as often as I can... It's more like a party, really, but they are professional also they will laugh at your good stuff and find a subtle way (like not laughing) to let you know what's not funny.
I want to take this opportunity to welcome everyone who reads this to come down & have some fun every Saturday night at 10PM. It's free for all comedians with no drink minimums! We also raffle off a couple of "fishbowl spots" every show so be ready to perform! See you Saturdays at 10PM at O'Hanlon's Bar! For reservations or more info. go to www.HECTORLUIS.com
I got the opportunity to do my 1st open mic here and the experience was great. The host Hector Luis did a great job welcoming comics and keeping the room energized, besides that he and the rest of the comics there were hilarious. Will definitely return to work some more material.
I've been to mics in NYC, LA, SF, and even Canada and I can say without a doubt this is in my opinion the best run and most supportive mic out there. Of course I haven't been to them all but when you have found the best you needn't search them all. Most comics pay attention to the mic holder at the time. There are some exceptions who can't help but be focused on themselves while they wait because they either a. lack confidence b. didn't prepare themselves properly or c. they are just socially awkward and don't know how to live when the focus is not on them. I am one of those comics falls in the b. category from time to time but I am a decent enough person to throw caution to the wind and give common courtesy to those performing. If you see me texting just know that I have sick grandmother that I must look after and shes probably sending me "days of our lives" highlights. Many comics stay to the end as well and network, don't worry about people leaving though. Often there are good reasons people leave early, from negative vibes to quests to redeem themselves for shitty sets. Over all if your aim is to have fun and get better in the process I would do this mic as much as possible. Hope the review helped holla at me if you have any questions at www.jamarrjohnjohnson.com
Can't say enough about how great this mic is! Very, VERY supportive room, no one EVER feels out of place of unwelcome... One of the best of the best in NYC! Hector and his wife are two of the nicest, most fun people to work with!!! LOVE you guys!
There's something happening in that room! I've known Hector for a couple of years ago and I felt very proud and encouraged (after not seeing him for a while because of work and life) when he said he could see the results of my working hard on my act. That's the kind of love a new comic needs to keep going! The back room at O'Hanlon's is the place to be for new and experienced comics to get thier chops together, and to get a feel for what the regular audience likes too. Viva Hector! Joe Romby Jr.
They have $3 High Lifes....and a large Puerto Rican. Which we learned, yesterday, is very different from being a Mexican. And Allen Shane is the headliner.
Hector always runs lively mics... the energy is generally really good and he keeps things going well. Good place to work out your stuff. He and his wife do a really nice job running these mics.
Awesome mike - Hector the host runs it like a real show and it has that feel. Comics pay attention and the newbie gets full support from everybody. Great vibe - $5.00 which is the new free (Open mikes now charge a cover and a drink??? - Holy rip off Batman) This is a great mike - hard to find mikes like this any more. I am the funniest man on the planet
This is really the only option for Tuesdays. Hector is the best in the business. The crowd is having a ball and listen to the other comics. I'll keep coming back to this one for sure.

Not judging by your posting...
ReplyDeleteGreat mic. Well run and supportive. Lots of mics suck. this one doesn't.
ReplyDeleteBeen going to Hector's mics for a few months now and it's always been a fun room with high/positive energy. Hector runs a smooth show.

ReplyDeleteHector is a good guy, period. He runs a good mic. You'd be foolish if you didn't try it at LEAST once...
