  3. This was one of the worst mics I have been to... bearing in mind that the bar has been set quite low by Broadway Comedy Club in general. The people were friendly enough... but the mic was run as though the host did not want to be there and it was terribly cliquish with friends of the host getting preferential treatment. There was also the hard sell of hawking bringer shows and bludgeoning the idea into our heads that Broadway Comedy Club is really a family. I know there are other comics who like it and I respect that, but I would not recommend this open mic.

  4. This mic sucked so bad, it actually caused a vortex overhead... god this thing is a DOG!

  5. I agree with the negative comments above. I have seen quite a bit of beuacracy on sassi's part. i gave her a little attitude (cause she was trying to get me to do her industry showcase show) and she bumped me to dead last on the open mic. on nights when there are prizes to give, she'll just give them to her friends. NOT A FAN.

any room can be utilized if you have the brains and the balls. but i just hate coming here.

  6. Headliners, interns, barkers and people who do our bringer shows get preferencial treatment. In other words if you earn it. And our bringer shows lead to getting passed at the club if you are funny. If Jim Carey is your uncle than bless you, go to LA.

  7. Sassi, Kate and Jamie all have great energy, and prizes are given to the funniest comic based on who hasn't won in the last three months. Bringer shows are a necessary evil. You have to create a fanbase. You never stop bringing. I actually got passed through the bringer shows at broadway! Into the weekend rotation!

  8. Great mic! You get 7 min, which is pretty rare for a mic. It's either Sassi, Jamie, or Kate hosting, and all three are super supportive and fun. Healiners, interns, and comics who do bringer shows do sometimes get bumped up, but only if they have somewhere to be. It's definitely a good mic to go to!!!

  9. I've been to the mic several times and found it to be a pretty good mic. The comics actually pay attention, the hosts are usually good and you actually know when you're getting on the show (as opposed to some other mics I've been to).

I had been there a couple of times where I was bumped because a regular from the club came in, but I've heard they got complaints and no longer do this.

I've never won the pro spot on one of the club's shows, but the people who did win deserved to.

  10. This mic is awesome and supportive. Sassi pitches the bringers and the opportunities available to earn more stage time but it never feels overbearing and is has more the feel of "Hey, here's the obligatory plugs" rather than "You must do this!"

7 minutes is rare to get for a mic so that is nice. People do get bumped up sometimes but they're regulars that need a favor because they have to be somewhere or house comedians and anyone who thinks they wouldn't show respect for them is lying. It's a business where you have to trade favors, sometimes a bump happens but you usually get to see someone who is ahead of you in the game and maybe learn something from watching them.

    It's a quality mic overall.

  11. if you go for the first time, you will be immediately aware that you are NOT one of the anointed comics (they are a special breed of lame sycophants). Are the hosts EVER funny... or interested? I mean interested in anyone besides their obsequious "friends"? I guess bootlicking is the way to get ahead there. I'm not expecting royal treatment... just a host whose head is not firmly implanted in their ass... so they can see their admirers up close. Cliquish is right!!!

  12. When I pay my motherfuckin' money like everyone else, I expect to be treated the same as everyone else. If your policy is to give preferential treatment to certain people, you should advertise that... otherwise it's a bait and switch. Will NEVER go back to this mic AGAIN!

  13. DUDE... calm down, it's an open mic at a stinky little club... it's not like it's Caroline's, Gotham, or The Laugh Factory... yes most comics know that Broadway Comedy Club is lame and unprofessional in how they treat comics who don't suck up... but there are other nasty little clubs that do the same sort of thing... granted Broadway ComedyClub has raised douchebag to an artform, and as I said, most all comics know that... but it's not life or death... just say you don't recommend this mic and move on. The needless vitriol makes you look just as lame. Do what all of us have done... just don't go back...

  14. wow, i've never had a bad experience at any of the mics at Broadway. do i sometimes go dead last when everyone is gone? yes. have i gone at the top or the middle? yes. in other words, it's like any other mic in that way. but Sassi, Kate and Jamie have great energy and keep things humming along. there are some clique-y mics, for sure. i don't believe this is one of them.

  15. I had a good experience going here as my first trip to Broadway comedy club. Of course they hawk their shows, you don't succeed in business without trying.

Smile, be polite, and people will be nice to you.

  16. how much is one drink?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah... I shouldn't have gotten so upset. It's only an open mic. Just hate that I pay my money and get second class treatment. But, as you said, it's just an 'open mic in a stinky little club". There are TONS more mics in the city. I've been to several now, thanks to Bad Slava... and you're right, some are the same, some are much, much better. So, I guess I just won't go back to BCC.

  18. altho at least the cliqyness at eastville is cheaper, just a drink. $3 and a drink come on!!!! and it used to be $1 and a drink...... so what rent went up???? i dont mind gettin a drink, but basically $10 really???

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, I agree about the $10... I was there about a week or two ago and it struck me that it was overpriced just for time to rehearse, which is what open mics are... Eastville is cool. I liked the vibe there and it was cheaper to do the same basic mental masturbatory dance that is stand-up. Can't really recommend this mic when there are other places that are cheaper. But not a bad room, decent comics. Hosts are a little nutty but basically harmless.

  20. Does Sassi even have a kid?

  21. How is this mic for newbies. I've done the Thursday mic with Jeff Lawrence twice and really liked the atmosphere there. Similar at all?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pretty much the same... You get a little more time and there's a few less folks.

  23. This is an open Mic. Its not an AA meeting, Thanksgiving or the high school prom. Its a place to do your 5 min and leave. Ive gone to this mic many times and Sassi and crew are great and do the best they can to accommidate a bunch of self centered, me first "They dont know who i am but somes day they will." type of personality.".

It seems the biggest complaints are from those who feel they havnt been invited to sit at the cool table in the cafiteria. I got news for the complainers...there is no "cool table" in a psycho ward. As Steve Martin said, "Comedy is not pretty".

  24. A reply to does Sassi have a kid? If you've ever been to Monday Mic Madness, Sassi and Kate sometimes bring their boys. They are very loud but funnier than most of the comics! Cute kids, rock on!

  25. This is a great mic! I've been when it was packed with audience! Kate is hilarious and beautiful and sweet! She is passed at the Comic Strip and still takes time to host a mic for newcomers! She couldn't be more supportive! Sassi also cares about helping others! Ask her and of course she will tell you about ops at broadway, but she will shoot straight about everything. She has critiqued my set twice! She is very funny too! Totally underrated! Why isn't she famous? She also runs a party company that gets comics paid gigs. Also Jamie Rosen, another funny sweetheart books an incredible room in Rockland County, another paid gig! Not to mention Aaron Haber, a more or less silent partner books more than half of the spots at Broadway Comedy Club. People should do the research before they trash these mics. It can bite you in the ass later when you want to get real bookings!

    1. Sassi should consider stop doing comedy, you must of drank the kool aid...
Awful mic, if your not in their little world, you dont matter, be suck.then they treat you like your important. 90 percent of the people aren't even any good, hacks, but in that room they all pretend to be in show business

Focus on on act instead of acting like you have one

  26. Kate and Jamie are both cool ladies and not the typical miserable, humorless female comics you see on the circuit. It's probably because they're hot and funny. The rest of these cabbage heads should find work haunting houses

  27. ALL OPEN MICS SUCK!!! BUT YOU NEED TO DO IT FOR EXPERIENCE AND STAGE TIME. NOTHING MORE. DO YOUR BIT AND THEN LEAVE.

  28. I have done other Broadway open mic nights, for a while now, and I can safely say this one comes in last. I was sitting in the middle of the room yet I could still hear the back door being opened and closed what seemed to be every ten seconds; with no interest of not letting is slam shut every time. There seemed to be three different hosts, non-of-which stayed in the room and you know, actually watched the show. And if the hosts could please stop TALKING while the comics are on stage, that would really be a great start.

I understand this is an open mic, and it's supposed to be loose and not as structured as a real show, but there's a limit. And $3 cover, and $4 water, would be nice if someone knew what was going on.

That said, Broadway is an amazing place, three rooms, good vibe and support.

I must say I really do enjoy doing open mic nights here. I have been doing stand up for only three, and my stand up consists of dressing up as a hippie. they are very open and supportive and The HOSTS are fun, great and to the point.

    Everyone get's there fair share

  31. Mics are booked a day in advance. Please also arrive on time as latecomer's spots are given away to walk ins. Thank you!

  32. Awful, Awful, Awful... always when I leave that mic I say why did I just waste my time their watching people suck up to each other instead of being trying to be funny, terrible hosts.. Don't care about the room only if one of their suck ups shows up . They pretend like they give a shit.

    What a mess

  33. This is a sycophants wet dream! If your head isn't waaaay in the ass of the host, you don't get decent time slots... done this 7 times! Always been boned. I'm not the only one who says this. Thera are other good mics out there... try them. Stay away from this polished turd!

  34. Emma and Kate are awesome and the couple of pissed off people posted here are just sad, pathetic douche bags who think they should be pampered. Grow up or get out!
