This is definitely not the same mic. Looks like someone just stole the name and the joke of the night contest and ran with it. I wonder if they know they're mic is called "CUNT" and they're talking about how classy it is??
Wow. I don't know who "Anonymous" is, but I'm Peter, I run this mic and I'll be happy to clarify with facts instead of intentional misinformation and negativity.
The original intent of the mic, which runs weekly, was to be an open mic. It has quickly evolved into a booked show, so as of now the open mics will be monthly (the first Tuesday of each month, with the other weeks being booked shows). I may end up alternating booked and open shows each week, but that remains to be seen. There is only one mic with this name as far as I know.
The 'Joke of the Night' prize will continue to be in effect for the open mic shows only. I actually got that idea from my days at The PIT, and I respect the way Jay Welch does it. Instead of buying a drink, other prizes will be offered.
This show is NOT called "CUNT" or spelled using 'C U' as 'See You' , etc. Yes, it has a double meaning- with the other (and more important one) being to promote the fact that the show is EVERY Tuesday. The title has nothing to do with the venue, which is CLEARLY what I referred to in the printed details above as "classy". Any comic that has performed there will agree with that. Please read fully before making ignorant comments.
I don't appreciate or respect anyone just slamming the efforts of others and intentionally lying just because they can hide in anonymity. That is weak. I run a good show, treat people with respect and expect no less in return.
For anyone still reading, the shows are still on (with the next one being 2/1) and you're welcome to come down and sign up for free stage time. Thank you.
This was brought to my attention by a fellow comic last night. I did run a very well attended mic for about a year by the name of See You Next Tuesday at the club formerly known as Comedy Corner, and I did also do a joke of the night contest. I had hoped to continue using the name if I started hosting another mic, but as of right now it doesn't look like that's going to happen anyway. Just wanted to clear that up, this is not my mic, just a mic by the same name (and just to let you know, most people are familiar with "See You Next Tuesday" as being a euphamism for "cunt", regardless of the spelling). Best of luck to you.
Amy, thanks for the info. Again, the use was of the name was a coincidence and the 'Joke of the Night' prize was inspired by the long-running "Bring It!" open mic at The PIT. I had done a search of the name on Facebook Groups before deciding to use it, and I didn't see anyone using it for comedy shows. Some comics love it, but nobody told me that it had existed previously. I only use the name here and on Facebook; otherwise most of us have just been referring to it as "Simply Fondue". If you'd like to resume using the name, please feel free to do so. I don't think it will cause much confusion. If you re-start your mic, I'd be happy to support in any way I can.
Who is this? I live about a block away and didn't think Great Neck would be an appealing place for a mic. But kudos! I'll surely stop by to check it out!

Thanks for your permission. If I start another mic I'll find a new name for it. I don't think it's very honorable to use the name of someone else's baby, whether the baby is living or dead.
Amy, it's become clear that you either skimmed what I wrote, or you like to vent your frustrations by antagonizing polite strangers. Maybe I'm not reading your "tone" as intended, but it's coming across as sarcastic and snippy. I took the time to write you a detailed reply and have been nothing but courteous and polite. If you've fully read what I wrote, then you know I had no idea you used to call your former comedy show in a different area by the same name - a name which, by the way, is a phrase that neither of us can claim rights to- nor need the permission of the other to use. Rather than complain about it, I was being nice and said I have no problem with us both using it- or even only you using it.
For anyone to even imply that you used it "first" or that I "stole" it, as in earlier posts, would be just as ridiculous as saying that you "stole" the idea of 'Joke of the Night' from The PIT (which was doing that years before your show, and they sure as hell didn't invent that either)... so my point is that none of us were the first to use the show name or that contest any more than we were the first to ever tell a joke.
I agree with you about honor... as I've already explained, had I seen the name in use when I searched for comedy shows and groups on Facebook, then as a consideration I wouldn't have used it. You and I have at least **30** mutual comic friends on Facebook and I probably contacted each and every one of them individually about my show... and not a single ONE mentioned your old show. And again... your show was in another area altogether and had ceased running before I even started mine, correct? I've mentioned repeatedly that I had never heard of you or your show. I'm not apologizing to you for a coincidence. Do not mistake my kindness for weakness and continue slandering me publicly by even so much as implying that I "stole" anything from you or anyone else.
If the Woodshed open mic were to stop running, would it be cool for me to start a mic called The Woodshed? No, it wouldn't be. In fact I would be crucified for that. Not because Mike Lawrence invented the word 'woodshed', but because that mic is something he cares about and has put a lot of work into. If I didn't know there was ever a mic called Woodshed and I was informed that there was, would I tell Mike Lawrence that it's ok if he still uses the name too? No way. You're 30 mutual friends didn't tell you because they don't care. I told you because I do. Still though it seems that you're taking this a lot more seriously than I am. If you want to call your mic cunt, call it cunt. Like I said I don't see a new mic on the horizon for me anyway. So you can call off your team of lawyers and drops the slander charges. (btw written words are libel not slander).
Amy, I absolutely do take it seriously when someone accuses me of doing something dishonest and unethical, whether it's said overtly or they've just been smarmy and implied it. The fact is that since we've never met before, your comments, attitude and judgment of my ethics are completely rude and uncalled for. So yes, of course I care.
So, what would you have done if you had called your mic 'The Woodshed' without knowing it had been used before? Maybe told Mike that it was a coincidence and offered to discontinue using it, as I have with you? Because that wasn't good enough for you to stop complaining and insulting me, even after I sincerely offered that to you along with my support. Jesus, what else would you like me to do? Do you somehow think I maliciously used the name because I even knew you existed and thought it would bother you??? Why don't you try and track down the person that invented the phrase "See You Next Tuesday' or the word 'cunt' and ask them to berate you publicly for "stealing" it? Seriously, I offered to stop using it (which I don't think I had to do, considering your mic was not even in the same area and no longer running or well-known enough to cause confusion) and you're the one that won't let up.
I chose 'slander' because the word is more commonly understood (and yes, I knew the difference) and I can only assume that you've probably spoken the same things to other comics that you've written here. I'm not going to take you to task on your misspellings, and we should both refuse to let this degenerate further into a pissing contest between two comics. I offered to stop using it and you kept attacking me for something I did not or would not do, which is stealing- and I do take that very seriously. If anyone is owed an apology, it's me... not that I'm holding my breath on that. If you possessed the honor and ethics you've lectured me about, you would not have gone about things in this way.
I think you're a little nutty. That's an opinion so it won't hold up in court as libel.
I read again through your whole manifesto here and I don't see an offer to discontinue using the name. What I do see is permission from you for me to use the name, which is ridiculous to me for a few reasons.
I didn't say you stole the name, I said you are using the name that I previously used for my mic, which is a fact. What you choose to do with that information is up to you.
I don't know why you are feeling so personally attacked, but that may go back to my first point. Just an opinion.
Peter, I believe that you had no intent to deceive people. You thought it was a good name and picked it not knowing there was once a popular mic by that name.
Well, the thing is that now you know. And the wise thing to do is drop it. Ignorance is a valid defense for picking the name but not for persisting with it.
It's like when you write a joke and later find out so-and-so did a similar one on their TV special 10 years ago. When that happens, you drop the joke. You don't keep telling it. Because even if you know in your heart that it is a creation of your own mind, the fact is that everyone else will think you stole it.
It's just a fucking name, dude. Let it go. There is nothing to be gained by persisting with it. Even if you feel you have no moral obligation to drop it, it is still the wise thing to do for practical reasons.
LeTrav, I appreciate your civil comments and I do understand your point. I've addressed this repeatedly, expressed an open willingness to share (or even drop) the name and have no interest in continuing with any arguments. I am open discussing this maturely at GreatNeckOpenMic at gmail.
With all due resect to everyone here, BadSlava set up and clearly intended these forums to be for reviews of the shows by actual attendees. I welcome those comments and criticisms, I apologize for contributing in letting it get away from that and respectfully ask that this forum be used for sincere reviews as intended. Let's move on from this. Thank you.
I went to this mic for the 1st time last week. I enjoyed that it was in a private room in the back of a restaurant. The people who worked there were telling people to come and check the mic out. Open mics are definitely more motivating when you have an audience, besides other comics who are just there to get their stage time. It was a very supportive group of comics. Also, a nice blend of up and coming comics and professionals who were trying out new material. It's a shame it's only once a month, but it's definitely worth checking it out.
First let me say that this is a great room and Peter is a total pro at handling it. I actually think this room is TOO NICE for an open mic. But beggars can't be choosers , to comics any mic is better than none. That being said I think that it should either be a weekly open mic every Tues. or 1x a month mic and 1x booked show. 3 booked and 1 mic is too much. I think it should stick around, the nicer weather's coming and people should hopefully start coming to check it out.
Peter runs a top notch show, and is a consummate pro. I highly recommend performing on these shows if you are able, and attending them if you're in the area.
Hey gang, the next Free Open Mic show will be on Tuesday, May 10th instead of 5/3. Sign-ups are still at 7:30, admission is still free and there are NO "bringer" requirements or buy-ins... just FREE stage time! 'Joke of the Night' prize still in effect, as is the bonus/lightning round. See You Next Tuesday!
Good job by Peter. He has fun giving time to the comics. Enough of what the mic was called. What childish silliness. It's the name of a fucking open mic. Peter is a good guy. Evan Weiss
He definitely has a chip on his shoulder. He accuses others of not listening, but he does not listen, at all. Very assuming- an attitude. And yess, this IS a review. I went to the show. He needs to make his guests feel welcome. He thinks, he is doing a favor, by being nice? I think he has something personal against women.
First of all, I used to run an open-mic called "See You Next Tuesday" TEN YEARS AGO in Melbourne, FL at the Box Factory (sounds like a cool club but it was an actual box factory).
How did I come up with the name "See You Next Tuesday"? I was the assistant janitor at the box factory and I only worked every OTHER Tuesday. Then one day my manager said, "See you next Tuesday" and I knew that I had been promoted!
I started cracking jokes in the break room and I was "discovered" by the foreman. He yelled at me and told me to get back to work. Still I would put on my show "See You Next Tuesday" for the guys every Tuesday and it got pretty popular.
Then one day, Larry told me that he'd made a sign for my "little thing" and showed me a sign that read C-U-N-T. He said laughed and pointed and said, "See? See - You - Next - Tuesday. That's you!"
All the guys laughed and I felt like an left heel with gum on it. I punched Larry, got fired and no one ever said, "See You Next Tuesday" to me again.
Point is...I don't care that both of you stole my name, what I DO care about is that us comics/assistant janitors gotta stick together. We can't let some foreman tell us to "joke on our own time," this IS our time!
So, I don't care if the Mic is at a Fondue... or a Fon-DON'T (to give you a little "taste" of how "cheesy" I can be...) I just want someone to say to hear those magical words one more time before I kill myself.
I'll "see YOU next Tuesday" lol.
Oh, and, Amy C? I "wood shed" a few pounds if I were you...CUNT.
First of all, you're a hypocrite to say that we need to stick together and then call me a fat cunt. Second of all, people who post anonymously on websites for the purposes of insulting someone are sad pitiful soulless pussies. I would be more likely to take your advice about losing weight if you had the balls to use your real name or god forbid say it to my face. I don't really value the opinions of anonymous pussified failed comedians.
Sorry I brought out so many negative emotions in you you anonymous loser :( Must be tough to be you.
Wow, I have only been doing stand up and open mikes for a few months but I can actually say this open mike was great. The comics were very supportive and Peter was great as the MC. And the place was very nice, air conditioned and dark with a mike that worked. Great job Peter.
Peter runs the best Tuesday Open Mic in North America. I've been to one almost as good but that involved Donkeys, Ping Pongs and naked woman at a show in Mexico . He is fair to everyone and gives time to the comedians to work their craft and its a nice free show for the audience. Evan Weiss
Say what you want about Peter Vellios, the dude puts on a free show 3 weeks out of the month that gets an audience and an open mic the other week that ALSO gets an audience. He is a hell of a nice guy and puts a lot of work into doing this every week. He brings his own equipment and transforms a dining area into an intimate room for comedy. I've seen this place packed with 30 civilians laughing at my fellow comic friends and damn it, that's a beautiful thing you don't get often. However, thanks to Peter, it happens. Hit this mic.
Hey gang, thanks to the attendees for posting your reviews of the mic (good, bad and otherwise). The booked shows are still going strong every week, with great pro headliners and solid turnouts, and the monthly open mics have been a LOT of fun. We regularly have a civilian audience, every comic who has shown up has gotten up and, by your request, we do multiple Lightning Rounds at the end. Good times.
They're still the first Tuesday of each month, and the next one is 11/1. See you all there :)
Hey everyone, last night was our 1st Anniversary Show - thanks for all of the support this past year! Audience turnouts have been great and the show and is being featured in Newsday's print and online editions on their home page today/this week. For 2012, all weekly shows will be booked. The monthly open mic was fun, and fortunately there are some good local mics starting up on Tuesdays now - look up Jessica Collazo for more information on any Long Island mic. I've been getting spot requests from great comics touring from other states and countries, and I'm accommodating city and local comics as well. It's really turned into a solid weekly show featuring a lot of local talent that I'm proud and honored to host. Thanks again everybody, and See You Next Tuesday!
Hi Peter! You seem like a great guy and loads of people here seem to like you. Awesome! I'd like to perform at the open mic. How do i get in contact with Jessica Collazo (we worked together at the same job, had no idea she was an open mic'er!)
Hi, Salaam :) You can find Jessica through Facebook. She does booked shows and has run several open mics as well. Another guy to ask about LI mics is Alan Streisfeld, who runs one at Finn's Pub on Mondays (the longest-running mic on LI) and he knows everyone locally, too. I don't check this forum regularly at all, especially since my show is now booked only. Good luck, Salaam :)
Hey Greg, it isn't moving but there is no longer a monthly open mic. All weekly shows are now booked, same time and place. If anyone is seeking a Long Island open mic on Tuesdays, Jessica Collazo does one at Cheers in Smithtown at 10:30 and there is also one at Behind Bars in Wantagh as well. Jessica can be found through Facebook. Good luck everybody and thanks for the support and feedback :)
Isn't there already a mic called See You Next Tuesday or is this the same mic in a different place?

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I used to run an open-mic called "See You Next Tuesday" TEN YEARS AGO in Melbourne, FL at the Box Factory (sounds like a cool club but it was an actual box factory).
ReplyDeleteHow did I come up with the name "See You Next Tuesday"?
That's a fascinating story.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you're a hypocrite to say that we need to stick together and then call me a fat cunt.
ReplyDeletePeter runs the best Tuesday Open Mic in North America. I've been to one almost as good but that involved Donkeys, Ping Pongs and naked woman at a show in Mexico . He is fair to everyone and gives time to the comedians to work their craft and its a nice free show for the audience. Evan Weiss
ReplyDeleteSay what you want about Peter Vellios, the dude puts on a free show 3 weeks out of the month that gets an audience and an open mic the other week that ALSO gets an audience.

Great shows and a great mic and a great sexy host!
ReplyDeleteGreat open mic, funny comedians and great atmosphere
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome Tuesday night at Fondue, great crowd, great comics and air conditioner.
ReplyDeleteThis mic is always fun Peter is a great host. The joke of the night is cool and lightning rounds are really fun. Sean Sullivan
ReplyDeleteHey gang, thanks to the attendees for posting your reviews of the mic (good, bad and otherwise). The booked shows are still going strong every week, with great pro headliners and solid turnouts, and the monthly open mics have been a LOT of fun. We regularly have a civilian audience, every comic who has shown up has gotten up and, by your request, we do multiple Lightning Rounds at the end. Good times.
ReplyDeleteThey're still the first Tuesday of each month, and the next one is 11/1.
ReplyDeleteHi Peter! You seem like a great guy and loads of people here seem to like you. Awesome! I'd like to perform at the open mic. How do i get in contact with Jessica Collazo (we worked together at the same job, had no idea she was an open mic'er!)
ReplyDeleteHi, Salaam :) You can find Jessica through Facebook.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Salaam :)
This mic is moving?
ReplyDeleteHey Greg, it isn't moving but there is no longer a monthly open mic.
