I went to Bar 82 several times, where the same host used to have a mic from 4 to 6pm.
I have to say the host never pays attention to comics. He does not seem to care about the quality of the mic, but seems to care only about 5 dollars from each person. Comics come to his mic only because there is no other mic at 4pm.
common man! the host isnt paying any attention because he's looking for his next hit. he's a drug addict. he's a personal trainer for the gay community so atleast he's motivated to do something
disregard the previous comment. if you liked the bar 82 mic come to this one, same format - $5 for 5 min riff and 5 min material sets.
sure the host doesn't listen to all the sets but whatever, he's not there to babysit us; we're adults after all. and either way there is always a nice, respectful crowd to perform to so what's the big deal if the host wants to pop in and out - he's not a talent scout who's attention we should covet.
i wrote the first comment, i assume the host wrote the second comment. If you want to go there, you should go.
But it is not true that there is always a nice, respectful crowd. people text while waiting, just like other bad open mics. I really believe that it takes a good host to have a good mic. I do not think the host cares. He admits it in his comment.
It's pretty cool to have a mic at the Parkside Lounge again. Brings it back to the days of the late, great Tuesday Night Train Wreck.
I think the format that is being brought over from Bar82 is excellent and the most innovative format at any mic. Where else can you get two rounds of 5 minutes? And it's great because it forces you to work on riffing and prepared material.
It doesn't matter if people pay attention or not - it is good practice to play in front of dead rooms that don't give back any energy - It's like the donut on the baseball bat - makes it harder to swing the bat but come up to the plate without the donut and the bat feels like a feather. I am a genius -
If you have good jokes people will pay attention. If people aren't paying attention thats on you. Real Comedy gigs involve drunk people who are doing more than texting if your stuff needs work. A bad open mic involves heckling from the audience.. I was at one where the host heckled.. thats the one I'd stay away from.
the host is having an affair with a transgender person! this is very exciting and sometimes his attention is there. open mics are the starting point When you become advanced you wont have to go here because you wont have to pay. of course it's a racket that's what he does!
I came from TN to do stand-up in NYC four times. Parkside Lounge was the most receptive of those four; it featured the comics having the most fun with each other, probably because of the five-minute riffing required before your actual set and the conversational nature of the host.
Cooper does walk in and out a lot, but I think he only does it to sneak more tranny-lovin' into his nights.
I often go here becuse it does have a decent crowd that is supportive. But, it's also the sex. Almost everytime I come here, beautufl women with excellent breasts have oral sex with me after the show in my car. And that's good; I like that. Most clubs don't have that.
So, if you are looking for a supportive room, and possibly , have sex with beautiful women with excellent breasts, then maybe this is the place for you. Bill E. Scott
I came here to get my ego stroked and be lied to, but i didn't get the support. wanna know what I got? a kick in the pants. I expect support because of myself esteem. damn it i'm witty and use enough big words to get laughs, it's not my fault everybody doesnt get me. jerks

ReplyDeleteThis is a great mic. The room is good and Cooper Rego is a great host. Very supportive mic with regular comics. Great place to work your material.
